WDW - Tiny Kingdoms Mystery Box: Second Edition • Series 1 - Hollywood Studios: Dinosaur Gertie's Ice Cream
This incredibly small pin came from a mystery box that contained three randomly selected pins out of a possible twenty four designs. The Tiny Kingdom pin series is recognized for the miniature representations of classic Disney landmarks, characters, or icons that can be collected individually or assembled on canvas maps of the parks to which the series belong.
This pin is one that celebrates Hollywood Studio and the Hollywood that never was and always will be. Gertie the Dinosaur was earliest animated short featuring a dinosaur. It was created by newspaper artist Winsor McCay and premiered in 1913. Gertie's short is considered one of the 50 Greatest Cartoons of all time for it's innovation and ultimately greatly influenced a young Walt Disney who was only 12 when the short premiered. When creating the Hollywood inspired park, at the time called MGM Studios, imagineers paid tribute to this pioneering Dino by building this large "California-Crazy," road-side attraction style ice cream window. This pin is die-cut around a miniature version of Gertie (complete with her snack of moss overflowing from her mouth), the sign (which reads "Dinosaur Gertie's Ice Cream of Extinction", and the glassy surface of Echo Lake where Gertie is resting.
The back of this pin features the Mickey waffling (though little more then three partial Mickey Head rows can fit on this small pin) and a single post. Two info boxes are located on the back. The first box, running vertical reads “Limited Release.” The second box includes the “(C) Disney - China” info.
