Vegan dining at Captain Jack’s - Restaurant des Pirates
When visiting Disneyland Paris in October 2021 we really wanted to try one of our favourite restaurants, Captain Jack’s! We love Captain Jack’s as the theming is fantastic, it’s a dark and atmospheric restaurant that is part of the Pirates attraction! This means that when you’re sitting eating you can watch boats travel past. The only annoying thing about this is that people think they’re funny by shouting “Bon appétit!” when about every 5th boat does this. You very quickly tune it out though!

When we were seated we told our server that we were both vegan and were offered some bread and butter. We were able to have the bread but obviously passed on the butter.
To start we had a quinoa salad. This was quite pleasant but a little too cold on my teeth. It comes with a spicy cashew vinaigrette, honestly it wasn’t spicy at all. This was a nice fresh dish to start with though.

Next up was the main course. There is no vegan option on the menu as is and it has to be modified from the vegetarian option. The rice in Captain Jack’s is buttered so they replace this with green beans with oil. Honestly I love my veg so I was very happy to be offered more vegetables. The dish itself was a vegetable curry. The chucks of vegetable were quite large and a little too al dente (firm) for me. The sauce was very pleasant, creamy from coconut and not at all spicy (I wish it was!). This was all topped with some plantain which i with there had been a little more of.

The dessert was a classic DLP vegan dessert of fruit salad. I’ve heard people joking about the desserts at DLP saying the more fancy the restaurant the smaller they cut the pieces of fruit! This was an ice cream glass filled with finely chopped fruit and topped with a coconut cream and sugar. The coconut cream was a nice change from some of the other fruit salad we had as it added another dimension but it’s really a fruit salad at the end of the day.

This was my first time eating at Captain Jack’s as a vegan and I was a tiny bit disappointed with the food. The main reason for going though is the theming and that didn’t disappoint at all. I’d still recommend going as a vegan though but just not to be blown away by the food.
