Interview with Lauren (PinsWithLoz) about pin trading
We got chatting with Lauren, who you might know from Instagram, about her pin trading and her Hannah Montana completionist ideals!
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us Lauren, can you tell us a little about yourself?
Hey! I’m Lauren, AKA @PinsWithLoz. I’m 22 years old and have an incredible boyfriend and two wonderful dogs, Sulley and Sasha.
When and how did you get into pin trading?
I have always been a massive fan of Disney, stemming back from my dad being a Cast Member in WDW back in the ’90s.
He got me into all of the park traditions, pin trading being one of them.
He has a collection of CM pins, and I just fell in love with them. Like many others, the 2020 Coronavirus outbreak was the real start of my collecting.
Lockdown affected many people, and I needed a distraction to keep me going. I joined some Facebook groups and mentioned my collections and things, and before I knew it, I had been welcomed into a whole new world! - pardon the pun!
I think it is so good that pin trading has been an excellent distraction for many. Can you remember your first pin trade?
Yes! I can remember my first pin trade! It was actually an international trade! With @PinTradeOhana! She had some little mermaid pins I liked, and I traded my Stitch pins with her! Little did I know that I would be collecting stitch a year later and wishing I still had the pins! 😂 Only kidding!
Sidenote, we interviewed @PinTradeOhana here!
We love Bo! What are your main collections, and why?
My main collections are - Walt, Figment, The Little Mermaid, Monsters Inc and Stitch!
Walt - Because he was the man who started it all!
Figment - because Epcot was where my dad was a Cast Member and always talked about Figment growing up.
The Little Mermaid - my all-time favourite Disney Princess
Monsters Inc - I have a dog named Sulley; you could say I love this film a little too much!
I mayyyyy also be six pins away from being a Hannah Montana completist, no judgment, please!
Six pins from completing Hannah Montana is impressive! Do you have your sights set on any of them right now?
Six pins, yes, and they are RARE. My main ISO is the Hannah Montana US Summit pin, which I have literally NEVER seen... and I keep praying that someone has the Hannah Montana 3D marquee pin for trade with something o have... but to no avail. 😂
How many pins do you have?
On average, I think I must have about 1000+ pins, not including my traders.
Traders never count, haha! What is your favourite pin?
Ooh, this is such a hard question!! I think it would have to be my Hannah Montana The Movie Marquee pin. That was an absolute grail of mine for a very long time, and I adore it so much.
What do you like most about pin trading?
It sounds really cliché, but pin trading is literally a lifesaver for me. It’s saved me on some very dark days and bought me some incredible friends from all across the world!
I’ve even met one of my best friends through pin trading, and she lives a million miles away in Minnesota, USA! It is a family, the entire community; everyone is so nice and welcoming and will always help you spend your money on those grails. 🤣
Not cliché at all! If you could change one thing about pin trading, what would it be?
Import and custom fees? Only joking, well, kinda! 😬 Quite honestly, I would change the lack of Disney pins available on official platforms such as ShopDisney etc.
We have nothing in comparison to the USA or HKDL. Now, don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot more than there used to be! And you can still join Facebook or Instagram groups with people who are happy to ship internationally, but it’s just SO expensive!!
We agree that trading internationally can get expensive real quick! If you could pin trade with any Disney character, who would it be?
If I could trade with any Disney character, I think it would have to be with Sulley. This is because he is my absolute favourite, and I would love to see some of the limited edition Monsters Inc pins he would have for trade! 🤣 a girl can dream, right?
And last but not least, do you have any advice for someone who wants to get into pin trading?
It can be (and is) very addictive. Only spend the money on pins you can afford to spend. Don’t be stuck buying loads of pins out of impulse on payday and then regret it for the next 25+ days until you get paid again! 😂
Trust your trusted sellers on Facebook / Instagram.
Unfortunately, there are many fakes in the world of Pin Trading, so be careful you’re not being scammed.
The most important piece of advice I would have for anyone wanting to get into Pin Trading is to HAVE FUN!
Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us, Lauren! If you aren’t already following her on Instagram, please do, especially if you have any of the six missing Hannah Montana pins!
If you are a pin trader and would like us to interview you, please get in touch!
