How to tell the difference between Chip and Dale
Whether you are watching them on TV, meeting them in the parks, are looking through Chip and Dale pins, it pays to tell these cheeky little chipmunks a part quickly.
A google search for "how to tell the difference between Chip and Dale" returns over 11 million results, so clearly, many people have issues with these two characters, so I wanted to share how we tell them apart by sharing some pictures of us with them. Some of the Chip and Dale pins we have in our database.
When Chip and Dale debuted in 1943, they looked incredibly similar, but over time they've been slightly different looks.
Chip has a smaller black nose that looks like a chocolate chip, whereas Dale has a larger red nose.
They both have two front teeth, but Dale's have a gap; I always remember Dale has Double the gap that Chip does.
Here is an example from a Halloween 2021 pin.

You might know Chip and Dale best from the Rescue Rangers. In that show, Chip looked more like Indiana Jones, and Dale looked more like Magnum P.I!
Here is an example of what they look like on that show, from a Magical Comics Chip and Dale pin.

I've seen on the internet that another quick way to tell them apart in most official pictures is Dale always stands on the right, the same way their names are said together. You see this often in pins, but I would prefer to remember the chocolate chip nose or the double teeth method!
There are some other characteristics you can use to tell them apart when they are together;
- Chip usually is a darker brown colour than Dale
- Dale normally has slightly closed eyes compared to Chip
- Dale has messy hair a lot of the time
However you tell them apart, Chip and Dale are unforgettable characters to meet; it is little wonder they make really popular pins!
